Is GreenFingers free to download?

Yes — GreenFingers is completely free to download on Google Play. The core plant identification and basic care guides are free to use. A premium subscription unlocks unlimited identifications, advanced diagnostics, and detailed treatment plans.

Which devices is GreenFingers available on?

GreenFingers is currently available on Android devices via Google Play. We require Android 8.0 or higher. An iOS version is in development — sign up to our newsletter to be notified when it launches.

Do I need an account to use GreenFingers?

Accepted Answer

No account is required to identify plants. Simply download the app and start scanning. Creating a free account lets you save your plant history, build a personal collection, and sync across devices.

Does GreenFingers work offline?

Basic plant identification works offline for the 500 most common species. For full access to our 10,000+ species database, diagnostics, and care guides, an internet connection is required.

How accurate is the plant identification?

Accepted Answer

Our AI achieves 97% accuracy across our full database of 10,000+ species. Accuracy is highest when you photograph a distinctive feature — a leaf, flower, or the whole plant — in good natural light. For rare or highly similar species, we show alternative matches with confidence scores.

How many plant species does GreenFingers cover?

Accepted Answer

GreenFingers currently covers over 10,000 species including flowering plants, trees, shrubs, succulents, cacti, ferns, mosses, and common fungi. We add new species every week based on user requests and botanical research.

Can GreenFingers identify plants from photos in my camera roll?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As well as using the live camera, you can upload any photo from your gallery. The AI analyses the image in the same way — just make sure the plant is clearly visible and in focus.

What if the app can't identify my plant?

Accepted Answer

If our AI can't make a confident identification, it will show the closest matches with confidence scores and invite you to submit the photo to our botanist team for manual review. Most manual reviews are completed within 48 hours.

Can GreenFingers identify plants in low light or from a distance?

Accepted Answer

The AI performs best with clear, well-lit, close-up photos. Low light and distant shots reduce accuracy. We recommend photographing a single leaf or flower in natural daylight for the most reliable result.

How does the plant health diagnostics feature work?

Accepted Answer

Photograph the affected part of your plant — a yellowing leaf, brown spots, wilting stem, or visible pest damage. Our AI analyses the image against thousands of known conditions and returns a diagnosis with a confidence score, severity rating, and step-by-step treatment plan.

We cover over 1,000 conditions including fungal diseases (powdery mildew, root rot, leaf spot), bacterial infections, nutrient deficiencies (nitrogen, iron, magnesium), pest infestations (aphids, spider mites, mealybugs), environmental stress, and viral conditions.

How reliable are the diagnoses?

Our diagnostics model is trained on millions of verified plant health images and reviewed by our in-house botanist team. We recommend using the diagnosis as expert guidance — for severe or unusual cases, consulting a local horticulturalist is always a good idea.

Can GreenFingers recommend specific products for treatment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Treatment plans include general remedy guidance and, where relevant, product category recommendations (e.g. systemic fungicide, neem oil, slow-release fertiliser). We don't endorse specific brands — we recommend the type of product most effective for the diagnosed condition.

Where do the care guides come from?

Every care guide is written and reviewed by our in-house botanist team, led by Dr Priya Sharma. Guides are species-specific and cover watering frequency, light requirements, soil type, humidity, temperature range, fertilising schedule, and seasonal care.

Can I save plants to a personal collection?

Yes. Every plant you identify can be saved to your personal collection with a custom name, location, and notes. You can track watering schedules, set care reminders, and log health history for each plant.

Does GreenFingers flag toxic plants?

Yes. Every plant profile includes a clear toxicity section flagging risks to humans, dogs, cats, and other common pets. We use internationally recognised toxicity classifications and always recommend caution with any unfamiliar plant.

Can I use GreenFingers to identify weeds?

Absolutely. GreenFingers identifies common garden weeds, invasive species, and native wildflowers. Each weed profile includes information on how to manage or remove it, and whether it has any beneficial uses.

What data does GreenFingers collect?

We collect photos you submit for identification (used to improve our AI model, with your permission), basic usage analytics, and account information if you register. We never sell your data to third parties. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings screen in the app. Deletion is permanent and processed within 30 days in line with GDPR requirements.
